Our facility features two research-grade glassware washers, supported by a high-quality water filtration system that ensures your glassware and plasticware remain free from residual mineral contaminants. We offer three different washing cycles to match your specific needs. Our experienced staff carefully process each request with a quick turnaround, helping you stay focused on your research.

To submit a washing request, make sure to:

• Remove all tapes from items
• Label each items clearly with your PI's initials
• Triple rinse your items in your lab. There should be no trace of chemicals - items not properly rinsed will be returned
• Place items in a tray without overfilling. Make sure to use an autoclavable tray if you are also requesting a sterilization service
• Complete a Service Request Form and attach it to your tray
• Drop off your tray at the 4th floor washing station (behind the elevator) or in your lab's designated area

The facility operates three validated autoclaves for sterilization maintained through regular performance validation cycles to ensure reliability and compliance with safety standard. We offer customizable sterilization programs tailored to both liquid and solid materials providing flexibility to meet your lab’s specific needs. Each request is carefully processed by our experienced staff, with a fast turnaround to help keep your research running smoothly.

To submit a sterilization request, make sure to:

• Label each items clearly with your PI's initials
• Triple rinse your items in your lab. There should be no trace of chemicals - items not properly rinsed will be returned
• For liquids, ensure that the liquid does not exceed 70% of the container’s volume and close the lid of your container loosly (half a turn)
• Place items in an autoclavable tray without overfilling (CETS does not provide the trays)

• Wrap your items with foil if needed and add a piece of autoclave tape
• Complete a Service Request Form and attach it to your tray
• Drop off your tray at the 4th floor washing station (behind the elevator)

Our facility operates two validated autoclaves dedicated to decontamination, maintained through regular performance validation cycles to ensure safety, reliability and compliance with regulatory standards. We provide decontamination services for both solid and liquid biological waste, ensuring safe disposal in accordance with institutional and governmental guidelines. 

To submit a SOLID decontamination request, make sure to:

• Use only approved orange biohazard bags

• Do NOT place any chemicals in the bags. If you're unsure how to dispose of a specific lab waste, consult the uOttawa "Bucket List" posters or contact [email protected]
• Label each bag with a Hazardous Waste sticker
• Segregate serological pipettes to prevent them from puncturing bags
• Drop-off your bags in the grey bins at the designated collection stations (2^nd, 3^rd and4^th floor)
