The uOttawa Metabolomics Core Facility (MCF) is part of the Metabolomics Innovation Resource of the Goodman Cancer Research Centre (GCRC), the University of Ottawa and the Van Andel Research Institute (VARI), known collectively as MIRGOV.

Plan your visit

To get started, email or call us. We will first set up a meeting to discuss your needs and suitable methodologies. Prior to this initial meeting, please reflect on the required coverage and metabolites of interest for your biological query. We also suggest you have both the person conceptualizing the project and the person preparing the samples present. We will then send you protocols for sample extractions, and provide aliquots of mass spectrometry grade extraction solvents. For standard methodologies, we always begin with a complimentary pilot study to set expectations, test extraction methods and investigate the metabolite coverage in a particular matrix. Then, we assess the pilot dataset and plan for the full project together.

The Metabolomics Core Facility is constantly developing and optimizing LCMS and GCMS methods. Priorities for new method development depend on a number of factors, including staff availability and user demand. Please reach out to us early with your needs and we will try to work alongside you to develop suitable LCMS and GCMS methodologies. Method development is billed as the sum of the price per injection and the hourly staff rate.
