By the end of this foundational training in Science, Society, and Policy (SSP), learners will be able to:
- Demonstrate readiness to apply foundational SSP knowledge in professional, academic, or policy settings through participation in the optional in-person discussion session.
- Explain the structure and function of the Canadian machinery of government, particularly in relation to science, technology and innovation policymaking.
- Articulate the basic concepts and tools within SSP scholarship and practice, and their evolution including emerging themes at the intersection of science, society, and public policy.
- Describe the historical development of the science-society-policy interface in Canada, including key turning points and institutional shifts.
- Be aware of seminal reports and studies that have shaped science policy in Canada, highlighting their influence on current practice.
Critically assess the role of science diplomacy in today’s fragmented geopolitical context.
