The X-ray Core Facility is located in room 028A in the new STEM complex. The facility provides sample analysis via single crystal x-ray diffraction (SCXRD), powder x-ray diffraction (PXRD) and x-ray fluorescence (XRF).

Training

  • Users wishing to run their own experiments must receive appropriate training by the x-ray manager and must complete the Office of the Chief Risk Officer’s online x-ray safety program and user registration form prior to using the instrument. Training will be given on an individual basis. There are no group training sessions. A training fee, determined by the X-ray Facility Committee, will be charged for each new user. Initially, each user will be trained on either the Philips or Rigaku instrument, depending on the user’s needs. If training on the second instrument is later on requested the x-ray manager will charge the hourly rate for non-trained users for the training session. A second training fee will not be applied.
  • If you would like to be trained to use one of the PXRD instruments please contact Jeff Ovens. Please note there is a training fee for each user so if you do not have many samples to analyze or you do not plan on using PXRD regularly please submit your samples directly to the x-ray manager for analysis.
