As holder of the Research Chair on Digital Thriving in Franco-Ontarian Communities, Megan Cotnam-Kappel leads her research team in using collaborative approaches to build digital capacity and online empowerment for young people, education professionals, and members of minority language communities. Although the focus is on French-speaking Ontario, the chair works to create global impact through international collaborations and the exchange of diverse perspectives.

Most adult mental health problems begin in childhood. For this reason, reducing the occurrence of illness in childhood can be expected to have a positive impact on adult mental health. To that end, Tracy Vaillancourt, Canada Research Chair in Youth Mental Health and Violence Prevention, is exploring an important and often neglected root cause of mental health problems: bullying.

University Research Chair in Inclusion, Mental Health and School Attendance

Chairholder: Jess Whitley

As University Research Chair in Inclusion, Mental Health and School Attendance Jess Whitley examines how mental health, and disabilities, contribute to chronic school absenteeism, a growing concern in Canada. Involving diverse communities, and in partnership with the Crossroads Children’s Mental Health Centre, her research seeks to better understand and address barriers to school attendance. By creating new knowledge and practical strategies, her work aims to improve outcomes for vulnerable students locally and globally.
