The Boddy lab studies bioactive natural products and their biosynthesis. We focus on harnessing biosynthetic pathways to produce complex natural products and their analogs. Two of the key problems we try to address are 1) to increase the chemical diversity accessible through biosynthesis and 2) to generate efficient and scalable methods for producing natural products and their analogs. This interdisciplinary research requires experimental tools from synthetic chemistry, enzymology, protein engineering, synthetic biology, molecular microbiology, bioinformatics, and microbial ecology and will impact diverse fields from sustainable manufacturing to pharmaceutical discovery.
Prof Boddy supervises students from graduate programs in Chemistry & Biomolecular Sciences and Biology.
