The Office of Continuing Professional Development at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Medicine supports physicians, scientists, medical educators and affiliated healthcare professionals in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec by providing innovative, practical and evidence-informed education programs.

Professional development for physicians includes areas beyond clinical education that address other aspects of the practice of medicine. We support our academics through a series of program aimed at building and expanding teaching, research and career development skills and promote scholarship in the work we do.

We also encourage physicians and other healthcare professionals to use a variety of learning formats that extend beyond traditional learning settings to include small groups, self-directed learning, assessment projects and technological support tools such as web-based learning. The Office of CPD supports this diversity through programs it builds, collaboration with others who are building programs, and services such as program accreditation, educational consultation and conference planning.

We provide services to both the individual physician as well as to others who are developing education programs and services. In addition, to facilitate the engagement of the Faculty of Medicine within our community, we provide medical education programs to the general public in our Mini-Med School.

Our vision/mission statements were recently updated to reflect an increasing focus on practice improvement and health outcomes. We strive to motivate our planning committees to incorporate the tenets of quality improvement and to create objectives and learning formats that will result in practice change in those who participate in our programs.
