We understand the heavy demands of medical school so we do our best to offer initial appointments within 2 to 5 business days from your request date. If you have an emergency, we make every effort to provide same-day service.

4 ways to book an appointment :

Please note : 

  • Our counselling services are offered to undergraduate medical students in the Faculty of Medicine.
  • We ask that you arrive 15 minutes early to your first appointment in order to complete all the pre-counselling required documentation. 
  • If you are unable to make it to your scheduled appointment, please advise us as soon as possible. 
  • we try to accommodate your request to meet with a specific counsellor (francophone/anglophone, etc.).

Confidentiality

The Student Affairs Office operates with consultation to the academic program, but is a confidential service for individual students, at arm's length from academics.

The counsellors in the Student Affairs Office are dedicated to providing high quality support and mentorship to all students. We recognize the importance of confidentiality and would like to reassure you that all discussions with the counsellors are strictly confidential. Information you share with the counsellors will not be released or shared without your permission and express consent, except as is required by law:

Counsellors are required to disclose confidential information if:

  • They believe that you may be a danger to yourself or others.
  • They become aware that a minor is being abused physically or sexually or is at risk of being abused.
  • A court of law subpoenas their records or records regarding a particular incident. In this event, the counsellors will contact you, if possible, before releasing any information and will notify you of the proceedings.

Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA)

The University of Ottawa respects your privacy. Information provided for the purpose of admissions, registration, academic programs, university-related student activities, activities of student societies, financial assistance and awards, and advancement, and for the purpose of statistical reporting to government agencies is protected in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
