January 9th, 2020

Prof. Nathalie Burlone in collaboration with the Centre on Governance and the School of Political Studies organized a conference entitled Policy-making and Technology: Issues of Accountability, Impartiality and Social Justice. The conference presenters included Dr. Maria Verónica Elias from the University of Texas at San Antonio, Dr. Bethany Waterhouse-Bradley from Ulster University and Dr. Christopher Cooper of the University of Ottawa.

The Centre on Governance in partnership with the Canadian Francophonie Scholarship Program and eight African interns participating in the University Governance program held a panel discussion entitled Renforcer la gouvernance universitaire en Afrique: Contexte, défis et solutions.”

This conference was moderated by Louise Ouimet, former Ambassador and Head of Aid in Africa, along with eight visiting scholars from four African countries (Senegal, Ivory Coast, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Burkina Faso): Jacqueline Ibriga Thiombiano, Awa Ka, Claude Dakuyo, Alioune Niane Badara, Christelle Ouattara, Alexis Ibaku, Célestin Kaniema Mangianda, and Pélagie Theoua.

The Centre on Governance, together with the Performance and Planning Forum (FRP/PPX), and The Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC/IAPC), hosted a presentation on risk management. The talk was delivered by Marc Morin, Chief Risk Officer, and Olivier Choinière, Director of Performance and Risk Management and was entitled “La Gestion du risque: Héros obscur de la planification stratégique?

The Centre on Governance, together with Fulbright CanadaOttawa Hub for Harm Reduction, and the University of Ottawa Centre for Health Law, Policy and Ethics, hosted an event on the opioid crisis. The talk was delivered by Prof. Oliver Kim, Fulbright Scholar at the Centre on Governance, and Adjunct Professor at the University of Pittsburgh and was entitled “Political and Policy Lessons from the United States in Responding to the Opioid Epidemic.”
