Message from the Vice-Dean

The Faculty of Medicine’s Graduate Studies Program at the University of Ottawa is offered in a research- intensive setting. Our students learn, discover and work in an environment that is exciting, creative, challenging and diverse.

Our local affiliated partners and research institutes, together with professors in the Basic Sciences Departments, offer a vast and unique blend of research possibilities for students interested in a career in the biomedical and population sciences.

Since 2003, the Faculty of Medicine and our partners have the second-highest growth rate in overall Tri-Council funding and the third-highest growth rate in Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) funding. For three years in a row, we have been ranked second in Canada by Maclean’s magazine for medical science grants.

Our world-renowned professors educate and share their expertise with students, postdoctoral fellows and visiting international academics. We understand that education is a fundamental aspect of medical and scientific research.

Our program ensures that students work collaboratively in a challenging environment where their discoveries contribute to medical research in Canada, ultimately improving the quality of life of Canadians and people around the world through improved health care and innovation.
