OISB encourages collaborative and integrative approaches, and address significant scientific challenges associated with Canada’s research priorities.

Programs and networks

NSERC CREATE programs:

OISB supports two Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) training programs.  These include ‘Technomise’  (TECHNOlogies for MIcrobiome Science and Engineering), directed by Dr. Daniel Figeys (https://create-technomise.ca), and ‘MATRIX’ (Metabolomics Advanced Training and International Exchange), directed by Drs. Mary-Ellen Harper and Steffany Bennett

Through these programs, OISB encourages collaborative and integrative approaches, and address significant scientific challenges associated with Canada’s research priorities, and facilitates the transition of new researchers from trainees to productive employees in the Canadian workforce.

Major collaborative networks

In February 2021, OISB signed a Master Collaborative Research Agreement with the National Research Council of Canada . Specifically this included two NRC research centres: Human Health and Therapeutics and Digital Technologies

With the highly complementary research areas of OISB, NRC-HHT and NRC-DT, the agreement has catalyzed new avenues of research, and led to Collaborative Seed Grants, and our recently announced NRC-OISB Graduate Scholarships.
