Alex Ilchenko, LLB ’91, Appointed Associate Judge of Superior Court of Justice
The Honourable Doug Downey, Attorney General of Ontario, announced the appointment of Alex Ilchenko, LLB ’91, to the Superior Court of Justice, Toronto Region, effective August 12, 2021. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1993.

From the Attorney General’s announcement:

Case Management Master Alexander Ilchenko was called to the Ontario bar in 1993. He is a certified specialist in bankruptcy and insolvency law and holds a bachelor of laws degree from the University of Ottawa. He was senior counsel and practice group head for insolvency and restructuring at Pallett Valo LLP since 2012. Prior to this, he was counsel for McMillan LLP for four years, an associate at Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP for 10 years and at Lang Michener LLP for seven years. He served on the Ontario Bar Association Insolvency Law Executive for 16 years and is the past chair of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Litigation Practice Group at The Advocates’ Society.

He has been involved in Ukrainian community organizations in leadership roles, including as National Vice President of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress and President (and a founding member) of the Ukrainian Canadian Bar Association. He has been the Honorary Solicitor of the Last Post Fund since 2015, a non-profit organization providing funeral benefits to over 150,000 Canadian and Allied veterans.

Case management masters are provincially-appointed judicial officers who have the authority to hear and determine certain matters in civil cases, including motions, pre-trials and case conferences. Masters and case management masters may also adjudicate construction lien trials and serve as registrars in bankruptcy matters.
