We are delighted to announce that Dr. Wolfgang Alschner, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section and a Faculty member of the Centre for Law, Technology and Society, has been awarded the 2023 Emerging Researcher Award by the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section.

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Wolfgang Alschner, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section and a Faculty member of the Centre for Law, Technology and Society, has been awarded the 2023 Emerging Researcher Award by the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section.

The 2023 Emerging Researcher Award is awarded to a faculty member of the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section who has distinguished themself through the importance and exceptional characteristics of their research work. The Office of the Vice Dean, Research att Common Law Section has introduced internal awards to highlight the importance of committed teaching, active and innovative research, and generous service to the community, the University, and the Faculty of Law. The aim is to strengthen the institution and raise our public profile. At the time of nomination, the candidate must have completed at least two years, but less than seven years, as a full-time professor at the University of Ottawa or elsewhere.

Dr. Wolfgang Alschner, a world expert in international trade and foreign investment law, combines his expertise in the fields of law, computer science and social sciences. In 2022, he was awarded the Hyman Soloway Chair in Business and Trade Law. He is also a Faculty member of the University of Ottawa's Centre for Law, Technology and Society, and co-lead the Legal Technology Lab. This innovative research laboratory, launched in 2020, is dedicated to the integration of technology in the legal field.

Dr. Alschner has several other responsibilities and affiliations. He is co-editor (law) of the World Trade Review, is on the editorial board of the Journal of International Economic Law (JIEL) and sits on the Academic Council of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration (ITA). He is also co-founder of the Investment Treaty Analysis Portal and Database (EDIT).
