The Centre for Law, Technology and Society is proud to announce that Faculty member Professor Marina Pavlović has joined the Public Interest Advocacy Centre (PIAC) and Air Passenger Rights (APR) to submit comments on proposed amendments to Canada's Air Passenger Protection Regulations (APPR).

Safeguarding consumer rights in the air transport sector faced significant regulatory, industry and political challenges during the pandemic period. In this context, the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA), responsible for regulating air passenger transportation, has suggested additional adjustments to the Air Passenger Protection Regulations.

Professor Marina Pavlović, who is a Faculty member at the Centre for Law, Technology and Society and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section, focuses on the study of consumer rights in the current context of a digital and cross-border society, also exploring technology policy and regulation.

As part of her collaboration with the Public Interest Advocacy Centre (PIAC) and Air Passenger Rights (APR), Professor Marina Pavlović drew on her research into consumer rights to express her fears about the proposed changes. If these changes are not properly designed, they will confront consumers with a claims system that is difficult to navigate, causing a growing backlog of claims. This can be avoided, however, by prioritizing transparency, fairness, and predictability, primarily by simplifying the categories that can lead to a dispute.

The group's comments are available on the PIAC website (PDF, 1.03MB)

Congratulations to Professor Marina Pavlović!
