The Health and Wellness sector focuses on promoting and improving the well-being of uOttawa students. We offer a variety of services as well as health promotion and education. 

Peer Wellness Program Team

Available Positions

7 types of positions are available.

Peer wellness helper

Peer wellness helper

You will provide peer support via the Wellness Lounge (in person) and the Peer Wellness Chat (online). You will also support and facilitate related programming (e.g., events, activities, workshops) and assist the health promotion specialists with various projects to ensure that the Health Promotion department runs smoothly. You will help create a calm and understanding environment by using de-escalation techniques. You will report relevant information to the circle of care for appropriate follow-up and you will assist students in navigating health and wellness resources on campus and in the community. You will also support your peers in managing their own health and wellness. 

Peer Educator

Peer wellness education assistant

You will play a vital role in supporting the development and dissemination of engaging wellness content tailored to the student population. You will assist in creating diverse and compelling content, spanning both print and digital/social media platforms, and in crafting user-generated content (UGC) that resonates with the target audience. In addition to content creation, you will actively participate in face-to-face wellness and education outreach activities.

Wellness lounge administrative assistant

You will provide administrative support to projects, programs, initiatives, and events, which includes but is not limited to, conducting research on, translating, and assisting in  developing and/or copywriting informational material and presentations, with guidance from professional staff.

Peer Wellness Navigator

Peer wellness navigator

You will serve as a crucial resource for students seeking guidance and support in managing their health and wellness. Your primary responsibility will be to assist students in navigating the array of health and wellness resources available, both on campus and within the broader community. Drawing upon your knowledge of available services and programs, you will provide personalized assistance to peers, empowering them to make informed decisions about their well-being. Your duties will include referring students to pertinent services based on their specific needs and concerns. This may involve connecting them with counseling services, health-care professionals, support groups, or other relevant resources. Additionally, you will play a key role in assisting students looking to check in for health and wellness appointments, ensuring that they can smoothly and seamlessly access care. 

Peer Wellness Educator

Peer wellness leader

You will play a pivotal role in fostering a culture of wellness and support within the university community. You will choose to work with one health topic: harm reduction, mental health, sexual and reproductive health, nutritional and physical health, or population health. Your responsibilities will involve supervising a team of 8-10 dedicated volunteers. Your primary duties will include scheduling, coordinating, and actively engaging in outreach activities and workshops to promote wellness programs and resources across the campus.

Health literacy assistant

You will assist in revising and editing health-related content and knowledge products. Your primary responsibilities will involve providing administrative assistance by revising and editing content in both French and English to ensure accuracy, clarity, and cultural sensitivity across print and digital media platforms. You will also provide administrative support for presentation requests from faculty and campus partners. Your attention to detail, proficiency in both French and English, and organizational skills will be essential as you assist in producing high-quality materials.

Wellness Lounge

Communications Assistant

You will work closely with the marketing and communications team members to design and implement high-impact marketing strategies and communication plans. You will assist with content creation across various platforms, such as websites, email and social media channels. You will provide support for website updates and optimization, including monitoring SEO metrics and implementing enhancements. In addition, you will help develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and identify return on investment ROI opportunities for social media strategies. Your role will also involve generating detailed analytics reports to assess the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and initiatives. Moreover, you will offer administrative assistance to the marketing and communications team by scheduling meetings, managing calendars, and co-ordinating event logistics.

Who is eligible to apply ? 

All undergraduate students from any faculty are eligible to apply.

Requirements 

  • Fluency (written, verbal, and comprehension) in both official languages (English and French)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to represent the organization positively and professionally in interactions with the campus community 
  • Proficient in context switching and maintaining productivity in a dynamic, fast-paced office environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting  
  • Abide by the organization’s mission to support the health of the campus community in an environment that is open and transparent to the Social Determinants of Health (SDH)
  • Demonstrated skills and/or experience in customer service and administrative assistance
  • Software Skills: Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Shared Drives, Calendly, Doodle, Search Engines, etc.
  • Social media Software-related Skills and Experience: including but not limited to Instagram, TikTok/Instagram Reels, and Canva
  • Demonstrated skills and/or experience with data entry and analysis   

Availability 

  • Ability to work an average of 15 hours per week
  • On-site presence at uOttawa main campus 
  • On-site availability during mandatory training periods and reading weeks (end of August-early September, Fall training week, first week of January, winter training) 
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
