We are sad to see you go, but what a great year it was! Here is a reminder of the things you have to do before you move out at the end of your agreement.

To help organize your time wisely, we have created a checklist to guide you through your move out journey.

  1. Place all furniture in its original position: Inspect and clean your entire room and unit. Remember to submit any repairs  in ARCHIBUS with your student account.  If you are having issues submitting a request, please contact IT Support.
  2. Take down all posters and decorations: Remove all markings and tape.
  3. Clean bed: Do not remove mattress pad or mattress protector.
  4. Clean desk: Remove items & wipe the drawers.
  5. Clean bathroom: If applicable, thoroughly clean your bathroom: sink, shower, toilet, mirror, countertop, and drawers/cabinet. Remove your personal shower curtain and hooks (if applicable).
  6. Clean kitchen or kitchenette: If applicable, pull out the kitchen drawers and remove any items. Clean out the sink, as well as the countertop, shelf, and under the sink. Empty the refrigerator and wash the entire inside and outside of the refrigerator, including the freezer compartments. DO NOT UNPLUG REFRIGERATOR. If applicable, clean the stovetop, oven, and dishwasher.
  7. Clean microwave: If applicable, pull out the glass plate in the microwave and wash it. Wipe the inside of the microwave (including the door) while the plate is out. Also clean the exterior of the microwave.
  8. Clean unit: Floors should be vacuumed, swept, and mopped.
  9. Remove garbage: All garbage, compost and recycling must be removed from your unit. Please respect the environment, and if applicable, return your compost bin!  Garbage chutes will be closed one week prior to the end of your residence agreement. Please use garbage bins outside your residence where applicable.
  10. Return your rental appliances
  11. Close windows: All windows should be closed and locked securely.
  12. Turn off lights
  13. Lock your bedroom door
  14. Hand in your access card and keys: As applicable, return your physical keys and access cards by leaving them in the drop box in your building’s lobby, using one of the key envelopes provided. Ensure you clearly identify the envelope with your full name, residence, and room number. Failure to do this will result in additional charges. If you use your student card for access, keep it. Housing and Residence Life will deactivate your residence access.
  15. Empty your mailbox and forward your mail to a new address: Cancel all your subscriptions.
  16. Payment due: All outstanding payments are due. Consult your student account for any outstanding payments.
  17. Final room inspection: After your departure, the Housing team will complete final room inspections for cleaning and damages. If the condition of your room is not deemed satisfactory (for example, due to personal items left behind, damage, or dirtiness), you’ll be charged accordingly. The University is not responsible for the items left behind; they will be disposed of and you won't be able to get them back.
  18. Carts: We highly recommend you bring your own! A limited number of carts are available at the 90U, Friel, and Rideau receptions. Henderson reception will have carts available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, April 26 to Tuesday, April 30, and from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. May 1. To borrow a cart, you must leave ID, but keep your student card so you can get back into your building or room. Note that boxes are available at the 90U reception for a cost.
  19. Dump and Run: You cannot leave any personal items behind in your room/unit. Drop off your unwanted items at the collection box in each residence or at the Free Store bin located in the Learning Crossroads building (CRX), on the first floor under the staircase. Learn more about the Dump and Run program.
  20. Submit the checkout form: Fill out and submit the Residence check out form Form on your way out! If you fail to do so on your departure day, you must pay a “failure to check out” fee of $100 that will be added to your student account as per the residence agreement.
