The MHC encompasses selected topics within the fields of history, philosophy, arts, literature and social sciences. All medical students are eligible to obtain either a special recognition for their interest and commitment to the humanities and medicine, or a Certificate of Excellence in Medicine and the Humanities. The committee will review students’ applications for credits (described below).
The MHC will assess each application based on the strength of its connection to:
- one or more of the following areas: history, philosophy, arts, literature, social sciences;
- the educational value of the activity for the student as a developing physician; and
- the role of the student in the activity.
Level 1: Participation
Student earned 30 credits in MHP, demonstrating an interest and reflective engagement with humanities and arts, as they relate to medicine.
Level 2: Significant engagement & understanding
Student earned 90 credits in MHP, demonstrating understanding on how humanities and arts relate to enhanced clinical judgement and professional development.
Level 3: Certificate of excellence
Student earned 120 credits in MHP, demonstrating excellence in understanding how humanities and arts relate to enhanced clinical judgement and professional development. Student is currently designing and leading the following project: insert name of approved project.
