Description
The Department of Family Medicine’s Undergraduate Educator of the Year Award presented annually to a member who has demonstrated outstanding performance in their undergraduate teaching, in particular their bedside teaching, their role as a clinical coach, or in the development of innovative teaching material and methods, courses, and programs of study, and for their interpersonal skills.
Nomination and Submission Process
Candidates can be nominated by a Department of Family Medicine faculty member, learner, or staff member, and brought forward to the Departmental Advisory Committee (DAC). If no candidates are submitted, the Chair or members of the DAC can nominate.
Nominations are to be submitted via the Faculty Nomination Form (up to 500 words), and must include a description of the candidate’s contributions in the domains outlined in the selection criteria, below.
The nominator might be called upon to provide supporting information, (i.e., endorsement letter or nominee’s CV), if required.

Selection Criteria
The selection criteria will be outstanding teaching; not to be narrowly defined and not limited to classroom teaching. Contributions to all aspects of teaching will be considered. The following list, which is not intended to be exhaustive, is considered typical:
- Course and/or lab design and curriculum development in UGME.
- Development of innovative content and incentives that engage UG students in learning processes.
- Development of interdisciplinary, cooperative or continuing education programs related to UGME.
- Development of new techniques for UG student evaluation and testing.
- Excellent course evaluations particularly by UG students.
- Creativity and impact in UGME pedagogy and/or applications in the development of courses.
- Variety in their offer of courses, small and large groups.
