Description
The Department of Family Medicine’s Clinical Preceptor Award presented annually to a member of the teaching staff who has demonstrated outstanding performance in their teaching, in particular in the development of innovative teaching material and methods, courses, and programs of study, and for their interpersonal skills.
Eligibility
All Faculty with a full-time or part-time Faculty position in the Department of Family Medicine are eligible. This award can be granted at any point in a career and can be won by an individual on more than one occasion.
Nomination process
Candidates for the Family Medicine’s Clinical Preceptor Award may be nominated by any uOttawa Faculty member, supervisor or colleague and brought forward to the Departmental Advisory Committee (DAC) If no candidates are submitted, the Chair or members of the DAC can nominate.

Each application must include the following elements:
Deadline
April 1. If the deadline falls on a weekend or a Canadian public holiday, the deadline will be the next business day.
Submission Process
One PDF document comprising of the required elements sent by email to [email protected] no later than 11:59 p.m. on the deadline date.
Selection Criteria
The selection criteria will be outstanding teaching; not to be narrowly defined and not limited to classroom teaching. Contributions to all aspects of teaching will be considered. The following list, which is not intended to be exhaustive, is considered typical:
- Explicitly embodies the roles, attitudes, and competencies of a family physician in clinical work
- Demonstrates a commitment to excellence in teaching and education of learners in their unit
- Promotes and stimulates clinical reasoning and problem solving
- Gives timely, learner-centred, and constructive feedback
- Excellent course evaluations by residents and students
Selection Process
The DAC is composed of the chair of the Department of Family Medicine and unit and program directors from each of the teaching site.
Award
The awards will be presented at RIO Day.
