The uOttawa one year Family Medicine/Emergency Medicine Program is an intensive 12-month residency designed to help Family Medicine residents enhance their emergency medicine skills. Offered since 1979, the program was the first of its kind in Canada.

We provide advanced training for family physicians either immediately following the first two years of family medicine residency or to physicians who are already in practice. Our program is accredited by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC). Once completed, residents are eligible to take the CFPC Examination of Special Competence in Emergency Medicine to obtain a CCFP (EM) designation.
