Class reunions in 2013

The weekend of September 27-29, 2013 marked many special milestones for Common Law alumni who came back to their alma mater to celebrate their 2013 Homecoming reunions.

Celebrating milestones for classes ending in a 3 or an 8, Homecoming brought together alumni from all over Ontario, Canada and the United States to revisit their law school, see the many changes and renovations that have taken place over the years, catch up with old friends and reminisce on fond memories from their law school days. Over the course of the weekend the Common Law Section hosted two reunion events: the Dean’s Cocktail Reception and the Alumni Gala Dinner. Members of the class of 1993 also participated in a special tree planting ceremony in memory of Richard Bogart (’93), a special classmate who passed away in May 2012 from ALS.

On September 27, the Common Law Section kicked off the Homecoming weekend with its annual Dean’s Cocktail Reception. The Dean, Nathalie Des Rosiers, was joined by alumni ranging from some of the first graduating classes, all the way up to its most recent graduating class, and even many of its current students. The Tsampalieros Atrium buzzed with excited chatter as old classmates gathered together, some for the first time in twenty years! After the Reception, many classes headed into the market or along Elgin Street to continue their reunion parties.

The following evening, Common Law hosted the Alumni Gala Dinner. Alumni, faculty and current students came dressed in their finest to continue the festivities in the beautiful Fairmont Chateau Laurier’s Adam Room. Dean Des Rosiers honoured the memory of Richard Bogart (’93), and highlighted the remarkable careers of three Common Law Alumni: Josée Forest-Niesing(’88), Karin Galldin (‘05) and Charles Hackland (’75). The three were inducted into Common Law Honour Society and presented with special plaques to mark their outstanding accomplishments. “It’s our graduates who make the reputation of the law school,” said Dean Des Rosiers. “We are very proud of them and their special accomplishments and we are always so happy to see them excel.” The evening finished with music from Emeritus Professor Ed Ratushny and his jazz band, The Wave.

The Common Law Section would like to thank all the graduates and future graduates who participated in the 2013 Homecoming activities.

Keep an eye out for the November Vox: Homecoming Edition with highlights from all of the reunion events. Alumni interested in sharing their stories, or helping to organize their upcoming reunion in 2014 should contact Caitlin O’Malley .
