Peer mentors are an essential component of ensuring a positive experience and seamless transition for first year students as well promoting wellness within our law school community.

The Common Law Student Centre has hired 18 upper-year student volunteers (16 enrolled in the English Common Law Program and 2 in the French Common Law program or PDC) to act as mentors and provide support, encouragement and guidance to first year students.

This program will honour our commitment to community-building and fostering an inclusive and healthy law school culture. These ambassadors will help facilitate their transition to law school!

Peer mentors will be assigned to a small group section, where they will be asked to hold group sessions focused on student wellness, academic-related questions (e.g., developing essential study skills, exam preparation, stress reduction and self-care strategies, career-related questions), as well as building a strong social network. Peer Mentors will also be available to meet with students to answer questions and provide support through weekly drop-in hours. In addition, Peer Mentors will build a strong rapport with the professor teaching the small group they will be assigned to and play a role during orientation in guiding students at the very beginning of their law school journey.
